Dr Lorraine Harrington is a highly experienced Consultant in Pain Medicine with a broad range of specialist interests. She provides expert care for patients suffering from various types of pain, including musculoskeletal, neuropathic, and spinal pain. Dr Harrington also specialises in treating widespread pain conditions such as fibromyalgia, as well as more complex pain syndromes, including vulvar pain, endometriosis, and chronic pelvic pain.

Dr Harrington graduated from the prestigious University of Edinburgh with honours in Immunology and went on to complete her MBChB. She holds numerous post-graduate qualifications from the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Anaesthetists. She also completed a seven-year training programme, including a Pain Fellowship at NHS Lothian.

Dr Harrington serves as the Clinical Lead for Pain Medicine at NHS Lothian, where she manages pain services at The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and surrounding hospitals. She is also the Clinical Lead for the ‘Excellence in Pelvic Pain and Endometriosis Care and Treatment’ (EXPPECT) Clinic, one of the few specialist pelvic pain clinics in the UK. In addition, she has been instrumental in establishing an opioid support and review clinic.

Research, Publications & Presentations:

Dr Harrington has conducted a wide range of research in her specialist areas, contributing to internationally recognised journals and textbooks. She was invited to guest edit the Chronic Pain chapter of the Smith & Aitkenhead Textbook of Anaesthesia. As a Principal Investigator, she has led several international multi-centre drug trials and is a frequent speaker at international conferences on pain medicine and gynaecology.
