There are many causes of lower back pain. Acute lower back pain is often caused by sudden and unnatural movements. However more ongoing chronic back pain can often be easily avoided by adapting your lifestyle and activity.
Keeping Active – This can help prevent back pain. Muscles are meant to move and exercise keeps your joints fluid. Walking, cross training, low impact exercise, yoga, and swimming are great.
Maintain a Fitness Regime – Strength training and core strengthening will help protect your back. Pilates is excellent for core strength and flexibility.
Correct Posture – Maintaining the natural curves of your spine is important. Don’t slouch at computers, in the car or on the sofa. Maintain good posture with high backed chairs or posture correctors.
Your Back at Work – Use proper desk ergonomics including a standing desk if possible. If this is not possible, get up regularly to stretch and walk around.
Reduce Stress – Stress can cause tense muscles. Relieve stress using exercise, meditation, yoga, walking outside in nature and spending time with friends and family.
Weight control – Extra weight can put pressure on joints. Keeping within a healthy weight can help avoid this unnecessary pressure on bones and joints.
